Movie Suggestion

cd.jpg

Ever hear of this movie that came out in 2004?  I sure didn't, but it sounded good when I was recently browsing Netflix.  On their rating score of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best......I give it a huge 5.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that anything with Robin Williams in it is good.  (And that goes for Tom Hanks and Anthony Hopkins as well) But as I said, I don't even remember the movie being released or any talk about it.  Suffice it to say......I loved it!  Humorous, tender, thought-provoking.

The movie begins in Paris (okay, okay....another reason why "I" happened to love it) David Duchovny is an artist, mid-thirties, married to a French woman, with a son just turning 13.  The movie then reverts to Duchovny's character, Tommy, at age 13.  He lives in New York, with his mother who is a nurse.  His dad passed away recently from cancer.

This is a multi layered story of a man coming to terms with his past and present.  At 13, he has a very special relationship with Robin Williams character.....a retarded janitor at the Catholic school he attends.

At the end, when the story reverts back to present-day, "Tommy" returns to New York to resolve his relationships with the people who helped to make him the man he's become.

I laughed, I cried and I loved this movie.  The ending was upbeat and just left me with a great feeling.  And I'll tell ya.....with all that's going on in the world and the news today.....I like those "feel good" movies that leave me feeling hopeful and happy.

Oh.....and the title?  Hmm, I can't explain the story behind it.  That would be giving away a good part of the movie.  So do yourself a favor and rent "House of D".......I don't think you'll be sorry.

See you here next time........

I never heard of it either! I really liked David D. in XFiles, such a cutie also! As soon as I read your review I 'ran' over to BB site and put it on my Blockbuster Q. I'll let you know what I think!

I have never heard of that title either. Some of them come and go so quickly or barely get a theatrical release. I vaguely remember hearing about a performance Robin Williams did as a retarded man though but then he does so many good characters. He's a jewel

I' ve seen this film on DVD or the cable channels I have....I liked it a lot. I won't say anything about the name either...but, I thought it was a very nice film..And like you Terri, I want "feel good" movies..though, I certainly wouldn't mind a thought proking film that has a real point...
I just cannot bear all the Hooror films, Action Films (Generally speaking)...and I'll take an old film any day over some of the junk that passes for 'entertainment', today...!

I discovered your blog from Ronni Bennett's list. Some friends and I recently went to Cedar Key for vacation for the first time and loved it. My cousin has gone there many times which is how I learned about it. I explored your blog and discovered we have several things in common. I plan to keep reading and enjoying your blog. Nice to meet you. :-)

I love coming across the good ones that might not have made it mainstream. This looks good. I wanted to see David Ds new show but now I have forgotten when it was to premiere.

This was an unknown to me, but I did go rent it. What a lovely little film. I truly appreciated the underlying theme about friends - unlikely though they may seem, "friends are where you find them". Thanks for telling us about it.

I don't think I've ever heard of that movie either. But I will certainly put it on my list.
