Alpacas & Wine ~

Following that delicious brunch at Candace's house, Mary took Alice and me to a local alpaca farm.  This was my first time meeting alpacas up close and personal......and it was an instant love affair!  I was particularly interested because my main character in book 4 of my Cedar Key Series is going to own a couple of alpacas, so I also considered the visit "research."

What really caught my attention was how when they heard our voices, they all came forward toward the fence in a group.......as if to greet us.

I particularly liked this guy......he had a rough-and-tumble look about him, with that piece of straw on his face.

And I noticed that some seemed to couple up together.......much like humans, I suppose.

Guess it was chow time while we visited, as shown above.

I thought the alpacas were wonderful and beautiful animals.  They were every bit as soft as the alpaca yarn that I knit with.  Another thing that struck me was the almost human-like interaction between them......when we first arrived, they kept swiveling their heads to look at one another, almost as if they were saying, "Look!  We have company."  The owner of the farm, Shelley,  had both roving (what is spun into yarn) and finished yarn available for sale..............and OF course Alice and I had to purchase a few skeins of this wonderful alpaca, which I plan to turn into some nice, warm scarves.

Monday evening found me at The Grape.....the local wine cellar in Quincy........for another meet and greet and book signing.

It was a lot of fun to meet more new people, socialize and sip that wonderful Washington State wine.  As a matter of fact, I enjoyed that wine so much I've had five bottles shipped home to me.  Ron, the owner of the Grape, had a release party on Wednesday evening..........some new wines released by Beaumont Winery and I especially loved their Pinot Grigio, Cabernet and San Giovese.......so I'm anxious for them to arrive!

So another great day on my book tour had come to an end.  But there was still so much more in store for me!  So join me here tomorrow and I'll share it with you.............

Hi Terri, another great journal entry. I just love reliving our week together! I will be going to the Cambridge within the next week or so on Thursday's "Chat and Knit" time and have been promised some knitting instructions! Maybe some day I'll graduate to Alpaca wool!!!
