Knitting Update

Those of you that know me know that I try to knit every single day.  I find it relaxing, enjoyable and yeah, I'm addicted.

Yesterday I went to Gainesville to Yarn Works, where I did a book signing last month and spent a few hours with Barbara, the owner, and her assistant, Marsha.  I had such an enjoyable time.  The shop was pretty quiet and Barbara taught me how to finish off a project with professional looking seams.  I'm ashamed to say I have always made a poor attempt at this, but now........once I was taught how to do it correctly, well.........look at my finished product.

This is an iPod holder that I made for somebody as a gift and I'm very pleased with how it came out.  It even has a little pocket in front to hold the ear buds.

Of course I cannot leave a yarn shop without purchasing some new yarn.........hey, that's the fun of it, right?  I was looking for something light weight to make myself a summer scarf.  Marsha recommended Borroco Seduce.  Isn't it luscious?  She said she's making one with this yarn.  So I purchased the yarn and pattern and here's where I'm at................

This pattern calls for "short rows" and although I've never done this before, I'm finding it quite easy and very enjoyable.

I have another scarf in progress that I'm working on.  This is being done with my very favorite Bonsai bamboo silk yarn..............

Barbara also offers classes at her shop..........it's times like this that I really wish I lived in a larger town like Gainesville, so I could attend these classes without making a one hour drive each way.  However, July 10 she's doing a class on socks.  My friend Alice showed me how to make socks a few years ago on the double pointed needles and actually, I wasn't doing too bad.  But.........then I make a boo boo, get confused and Alice isn't right here to set me straight.  So.........the sock gets put aside and I that's that.  So I'm signed up to take this class in July from 10:30 till 2:30 and I'm looking forward to finally learning how to make socks!

I think spring forgot to stay a while here on the island..........we had a few delightful days after such a cold winter but then summer-like weather returned with the days now in the high 80's and the humidity increasing.  At least it's still fairly pleasant early morning when I walk the dogs.

There seems to be a respiratory bug going around the island and I'm not sure if that's what I've had a touch of since I returned from Columbus or if it's allergy related, but I've been having ear aches, sore throats and sneezing, along with feeling a loss of energy.  So I've been taking more time than usual in the afternoon to just sit, relax and enjoy my knitting.

I've now seen the cover for the Christmas anthology where my novella will be.  I like it a lot.  Very wintry and it makes ya feel cooler just looking at it.

So join me here next time and I'll share it with you..............

Alice......I really AM glad you made me take it apart! If it's not done right, not worth doing, despite the frustration of starting over. I also decided to go with a different yarn........the other was splitting too much on me and not as easy to work with as the Bonsai.
So thank you, my knitting guru.

I also made a boo boo on the short row scarf.........just called Barbara at the Yarn Works and yup........I'll take that apart also and start over........oh, well.......better to do it the right way.

Beautiful colors on all your projects.

One of these days I'm going to have to sign up for a beginner, beginner class (do they have 'knitting for dummies'?). Mom tried to show me crocheting again this past weekend and didn't have much patience with me:-( but then again I don't have much patience with me sometimes either!

Terri:
I haven't stopped by for a long time, and it's nice to catch up. You've been going great guns on your book, new book, and books in progress. What a great success story you are! I'm proud that you're a "late bloomer" too, because it gives me and lots of others hope.
The cover of your second Kensington book is just beautiful.
