Too Good to be True

I met this author at RWA and picked up a copy of her book. I wasn't sure I'd like it, because it's what's know as "chick-lit"......think Sex and the City, Bridget Jones Diary, etc.
However, I was very pleasantly surprised. I loved this book!
Yes, the main character was young, thirty-one, I think. But the writing was excellent, the characters believable and there were parts that were laugh-out-loud funny.
It also had a nice plot.......When Grace Emerson's ex-fiance starts dating her younger sister, extreme measures are called for. To keep everyone from obsessing about her love life, Grace announces that she's seeing someone. Someone wonderful. Someone handsome. Someone completely made up.
I thought the plot idea was very different and well done. The main character also has a dog.....a West Highland terrier, Angus. A lot of the humor revolved around him and it was obvious that the author loves dogs and had a good understanding of them.
If you're looking for a very enjoyable and pleasant read, I highly recommend this one. Also, the author wrote Catch of the Day, which won the prestigious RITA award at the RWA conference in 2008. It's on my list to order at Amazon.
Right now I'm reading Carla Neggers, The Angel. I had the wonderful opportunity of meeting Carla at the VIP dinner and chatting with her and I admitted that although she was a favorite with two of my girlfriends (Alice and Marge) I had never read her books before. Carla writes romantic suspense. So at her signing, I picked up The Angel and I can't put it down! Oh, gosh, is it ever good and you can bet I'll be getting previous novels that she's written.
And so........what are YOU reading this summer? Leave a comment and share it with us.
See you here next time...............

On another note, I'm so glad you connected with Carla. I just finished her latest "The Mist". I have everything she's written, I think, I'm happy to lend! LOL
I look forward to saying the same about your books..
