Doing Well

Just wanted to give an update to all my readers that Ray is doing well since he came home from the hospital.

He's sleeping well, has minimal incisional pain (except during wound vac changes) has a good appetite and I'd say, so far he's having a good recovery.

The home health RN came out on Sunday to sign him up for home care and then again on Monday to change the wound vac dressing.  She'll be coming out three times a week.  And I'm very impressed with her.  Very professional.  Extremely competent, knows her nursing stuff, friendly and upbeat.  In other words, an RN anyone would welcome into their home caring for a loved one.  And there's a coincidence involved here as well.  She's been a home health RN for sixteen years and used to work for Olsten Home Health Care in Chiefland.  About sixteen years ago, I was the Clinical Supervisor at Olsten in the New Port Richey Office.  For some reason (which now escapes me) I had to make the trip to the Chiefland office (about 2 hours) with my boss, who was the Branch Director.  We had to book a hotel in the area and were there for two nights.  Although we don't remember each other, Ray's RN was working for that office as a field RN when I was there for a couple days.  Talk about a small world, huh?

We see his surgeon in Gainesville next Tuesday and that's about where we're at right now.

I know I ranted and raved on here about the hospital and the poor nursing care and trust me, all of it was true.  Unfortunately.  I will be writing and sending off letters to the appropriate people as soon as time permits.  However, I've decided against discussing it further here in my blog.  Frankly, I'm tired of talking about it and I'm a firm believer in promoting positive energy.  The anger and stress I felt while Ray was in that hospital was NOT positive energy.

I think from the things I did say here everyone got the idea of what a bad experience it was.  When my letter is composed, I will share it here on my blog.  Because I feel and believe that public awareness is everything.

So.....onward and upward.  During the past few weeks I've managed to spend a lot of down time reading books.  (always a comfort to me)  I've read a few very good ones that I'm anxious to share with you.  One in particular was very light, humorous and I was so impressed I had to contact the author.  It helped get me through a very difficult time during Ray's hospital stay.

So join me here next time and I'll tell you all about it and a new friend I made, the author.  See you then.............

Good to hear Ray is on the mend and things are moving as well as can be expected. Yes, try to put the hospital experience out of your mind for now and send positive vibes :-)

We have had pretty good experiences with the home health care nurses dad had also. Generally someone in that field is a very caring person.

I'm anxious to read your book review. I'm in the mood for a light, humorous read!

So glad to hear that things are still moving in the right direction! It has to be such a relief for both you and Ray---especially Ray---that ALL is now under control and the Best news possible....!

Terri - I am so ashamed that I have not kept up with your blog in recent weeks (well, I just told you that when I called) and knew nothing of Ray's ordeal. It has been an horrific time for you both (and including the four footed ones!) but I am so glad things are looking up and Ray is on the mend. A crisis such as this really highlights the closeness and caring of a small community and you are lucky to live in such a special one.

This just taught me a lesson! I will not miss a blog again, I will not miss a blog again, I will not miss a blog again....

PS - absolutely love the book jacket photo
