Need YOUR Help!

Yes...........I need your help.  And believe me, I'm not the type of person who likes to have to do this.  I can generally solve all of my own problems, situations, dilemmas, etc.  but I'm afraid this time......I'm asking for all the help I can get!  And actually, the help I'm requesting isn't even directly for me......it's for my son, Shawn.

As many of you know......he was diagnosed with lung cancer in March of this year.  Stage IIIA.  He went through chemo and radiation at the University of Lexington.  Another CT scan in Oct. showed the tumor hadn't shrunk as much as they had hoped.  They felt the only option was to remove the lung.  Serious stuff!  This is when Shawn decided he needed to be near family and he relocated here to Cedar Key on Nov. 6.

He had a CT scan done at Shands in Gainesville last week after meeting with the cardio-thoracic surgeon.  Today we met with the pulmonary specialist to get the results.

The good news is......the tumor has not increased in size since October.  However, there is one lymph node there.  The dr. today explained if the node is cancerous, surgery will be out of the question.  If it is not cancerous.........they can remove the right lung and he will be cancer free.

If there is cancer involvement with the node.....they will give him more chemo and radiation and he will have a 50% survival chance of being here 5 years from now.

Shawn has been scheduled for a broncoscopy this Thurs. at 1:00 at Shands and we will have tentative results following the procedure.

What I need from you:  Please send ALL of your positive energy, prayers, whatever it is that you send out into the Universe for good things, over here to Shawn.  We have less than 72 hours to accomplish this, but as an RN, believe me.........I've seen the collective energy of prayer work more times than I can tell you!

I have one last request:  Shawn turns 43 on Wednesday.  He has no idea I'm doing this.....but I was thinking how great it would be if you could send him some birthday wishes at his email which is:

deadicatedcarpenter66@yahoo.com

If you don't personally know Shawn.......just tell him you know his mom.  He knows I'm not shy to request something like this........lol

I'm thanking you in advance for your prayers, good energy and positive thoughts.

See you here next time..............

Warm and fuzzy prayers from Virginia all the way to Cedar Key! I've been thinking of you and Shawn so much since you posted your beautiful Thanksgiving pictures. Good luck with the results on Thursday and I will certainly email him birthday wishes tomorrow.

My thoughts and prayers are definitely sent your way for Shawn, you, and the rest of those affected by this terrible illness. I'm sorry you have to go through this, but hang in there. You are a blessed person and I'm sure it will transfer to this situation.

Just had to mention this...This afternoon on CNN there was mention of a breakthrough in which the UK had found a genetic link to lung cancer. How far they are with this research, in the experimental stages I would guess, but who knows. May be something to keep an eye on. How odd that I would hear that today...maybe a good sign.
