Woman In Red

I was introduced to this author over twenty years ago from my mom. She had just read Goudge's first book, Garden of Lies, and said I had to read it. It was great, as were the next few that I read by her. But then, for some reason I lost track of this author and didn't continue reading her.
Then my publicist mentioned her name about a month ago and specifically mentioned this book, which came out last year and her newest one, Domestic Affairs. So I ordered both.
I finished this one about two weeks ago and it made me wonder again why I hadn't kept up reading this author. She writes very good women's fiction. Great characters, great plot.
Woman in Red is about Alice Kessler who spent nine years in prison for the attempted murder of the drunk driver who killed her eldest son. She returns to Gray's Island to reconnect with the son she left behind. Her son, Jeremy, now an angry teenager is falsely accused of rape and mother and son are reunited in a desperate attempt to prove his innocence.
The story weaves the present with the past (I love stories like this and it's what I did with my Lost Souls) and the reader comes to know the story behind the portrait, Woman in Red, which was Alice's grandmother. A secret that's been buried for half a century is about to be unburied.
Great writing, great characters and I have to say the ending was one of the most satisfying I've read in a long time. So if you're looking for a good women's fiction, I can highly recommend this one.
See you here next time.............
