Yup....it's those dog days of summer, but our doggies are doing just fine. Duncan is now 18 months old and such a great dog. He adores Brie and is quite protective of her. She turned 4 months old July 27 and idolizes Duncan. Takes all her cues from him and loves romping and playing.
They both went to the groomer on Monday. Duncan really just needed a trim to keep his Scottish Terrier cut, but Brie.....oh poor girl.....lately every day has been a bad hair day for her. She had this foo-foo fly-away look on the top of her head and I could barely see her eyes. Here's her "before" photo......

And here's what she looked like after her 4 hours at the "doggie spa".......

And my handsome devil, Duncan......he looked pretty spiffy himself.....

This will give you an idea how much she's grown since we brought Brie home 3 months ago. And that's Marcel, my laid-back Maine Coon.

After the grooming, we popped in next door to the vet to purchase another supply of heartworm pills for Brie and had to weigh her. She's now 10 pounds. Not sure where she'll end up topping off, but I doubt it'll be more than 18 pounds. And......she's all scheduled to be spayed on Sept. 27.....the day she turns 6 months old. And yes, mom is dreading that day. I hate for them to go under anesthesia, but the good news is she can come home later that day and won't have to stay overnight.
Just in the 3 months Brie has been with us, she's managed to worm her way into my heart. I love Duncan to pieces, but Duncan is a more serious dog. Not overly affectionate. He's much more interested in me tossing his ball or a toy and playing, rather than cuddling and getting all mushy. Hey.....probably a guy thing, right? But Brie......oh, she's a total cuddle bunny. Loves to be held and hugged and loves to curl up in my lap. And I'd have to say I'm very impressed with the Cockapoo breed. Extremely affectionate, mellow, loyal, and very intelligent. Guess it's true what they say about Poodles being so bright. At just 4 months, she follows my commands for sit, stay, come and up. When I say "up" to offer her a treat, she balances and dances on her hind legs in the cutest way.....I think that's a Poodle thing also.
Needless to say, I'm very glad we brought Brie into our home and our hearts. She had some big paws to fill when we lost our Holly.......but in her own little way, she certainly is trying. Ah, but my Holly......she's never very far from my thoughts or my heart. As I sit here typing, I'm glancing at her photo on my desk. She'll always be with me. It's just a bit easier now to remember her and all the good times without that raw pain of loss overwhelming me. So here's to life and here's to memories......
See you back here next time............
