Mickey "D" on Cedar Key?

Mcdonalds.jpg

"You've got to be kidding!" Ray said to me Saturday afternoon as he was looking through the recent edition of the Cedar Key News.  "What?" I questioned, as I glanced up from my knitting.  He passed me the above flyer that was tucked into the pages of our newspaper.

None of it seemed too interesting until I reached that bottom line.  Do you see it?  The line where somebody hand wrote, "Coming Soon to Cedar Key."  I gasped.  I shook my head.  I felt my concern building.

Hey, folks, don't get me wrong.....I don't have anything against McDonalds.  Well, heck, it's practically an American institution.  But here?  On Cedar Key?  That's almost as sacrilegious as installing this burger place in my beloved Paris.  I still shudder when I see those Golden Arches perched along a street where Hemingway walked.  But I digress......back to the issue at hand.

I thought, "where on earth would they put this place?"  Surely not downtown among our historic buildings or seafood restaurants?  Never content to wait and see, I had to know right then and there what was going on.  So I put a call out to my friend, Molly, at the Cedar Key News.  Did they put the flyers in all the newspapers?  I needed/wanted facts.  In the meantime, I called my friend, Joyce.  Did she have one in her paper?

Ah, no......she didn't.  Right about this time, I began to realize that perhaps all it was a prank.  To get a non-suspecting resident like me a bit frazzled, to have me moaning over "what's next?"  Neiman Marcus setting up business on Second Street?  And just about this time Molly called me back laughing.....no, Cedar Key News did NOT insert these flyers.....and although she couldn't confirm it for sure, it looked pretty doubtful that those Golden Arches were going to grace our little fishing village.

So, okay......I admit it.  For a short period of time, I was concerned.  And I also admit, I fell for it.  So whoever thought it would be a cute joke to slip this into one copy of the paper.....you got me!  I enjoy a prank now and again......especially when I know the reality of it is that if anybody on Cedar Key is craving a Big Mac.......they still have to drive 39 miles to Chiefland to get one!

See you here tomorrow for my writing prompt, "The Dream"..............

Hi, I am here thru looseleafs, my sister. I was interested in what you had to say about MacDonalds. What kind of a joke was that?
You do seem a lot like my sister and in your introduction you have the quote from "Voltaire". My father used that quote quite a bit.

You may not see one on 2nd Street in Cedar Key, but I bet it won't be long before there is one out on Highway 24. Progress is inevitable (sigh).

It's all over the place in Paris. There is one that lurks right outside the museum of Natural History, so I'm saying: why not at Cedar Key? Hi hi!

I fell for it too! I was starting to freak out. And yes, isn't it FUNNY that I had just mentioned McDonald's too. We do have a Hardees here. That's enough.

I want to know more about who would pull such a prank?

LOL, wouldn't you know, that you would be the one to pick up that particular paper that had the insert! I don't like to see 'progress' at least not that type.

Without a McDonalds in Paris (France, anyway) we wouldn't have had that wonderful scene with John Travolta in Pulp Fiction. But I'm not a big fan of golden arches either.

Catching up here, congrats on the writer's award for Seeking Sidney. I'm hoping it will be published soon. My wife is a voracious reader of romance and I'm sure to order a copy when it's ready.

I was going to ask what in the world your population had grown too because MC Ds is one of the last to come in. We have a Hardees, yuck! I don't mind towns having McDonalds or whatever in the appropriate places either but I hate for them to be right in the middle of some beautiful waterway or historical district. It would be like one sitting on the Blue Ridge Parkway....ghastly thought.

But, we are getting a Wendy's down in the parking lot of our friendly local Walmart, still very new, and as much as I dislike fastfood Wendy's is the only one I would actually stop by. They are very clean and have some healthy choices. So on those nights when Martin is literally starving from lack of food he will have somewhere besides Subway to go!

Well, it got Ray, too! (LOL). Now you need to find out what prankster did that, knowing you would get riled up...Very Funny, Terri!

I recognize that prankster's handwriting! He's a sneaky little bugger that wears little black shorts around town. Do you know who I'm talking about yet? It rhymes with Ziggy.....
