WILL They or Won't They?

get_image.jpg

Yes...I'm referring to that Will.....you know, the "princely" one, the one that has all that royal blood floating in his veins that us mere mortals can't take claim to.  ALthough...I'm told there was a Polish king in my ancestry on my father's side....but that's for another post and I'm digressing.  On to Will.....as you may have noticed, he's been in the news a lot lately.  His Lady Love turned 25 last week.  And a few months ago one of the department stores in England had these plates done up, in anticipation of the royal engagement.  They did leave the dates blank, of course.  Hey, even in royalty capitalism reigns.

I admit it.....ever since Diana came onto the scene, I've been an avid royal watcher.  I even taped her wedding to Charlie the day I watched it on TV.  (Have no idea why, because I've never watched it again) But I was all caught up with the glitz and glamour of her wedding day.  And I have numerous books about Diana, never passed up an opportunity to purchase a magazine with her on the cover and loved to see her on TV.  She had such style.  Such class.  Such beauty.  And when she died so tragically, like so many others, I was shocked and sad.

The November after she died, we were in England and I made a point of visiting Althorp.  I even purchased some silk flowers and signed a sympathy card.  I left them at the gate outside Althorp.  I have a photo somewhere of me standing there, but passed on taking the time to scan it for this entry.

So I guess it stands to reason that I'm just as captivated by William and his sweetheart.  Kate reminds me a bit of Diana....although not shy.  I think she's gorgeous and has the same style and class that William's mother did.  So of course I've been following all the reports recently about them.  There's lots of speculation out there whether they'll marry or not.  I tend to think they will.  What do you think?  And do you follow the royal coverage in the media?

I know one thing.....should the wedding come about and should it be televised for us commoners to watch....I'll be watching.  Not so sure I'll save this one on a DVD though.

See you tomorrow........

Hi Terri

I was an avid Diana fan too. I got up early to watch the wedding. Talked about it for weeks. Got the book. Coincidentally was in England a few days after she died and went to see all the flowers at the gates of her home, Kensington Palace.

I got a little turned off on her romantic escapades but she deserved to be happy. The tragedy of her death is still quite unbelieveable.

I will follow Will's marriage with interest, but perhaps not the same amount of stamina as before! LOL It will be interesting to see how he handles it all, given his experience and insight to his mothers plight with the media, his duty etc.

Yes, I watched Diana's wedding as well. I always thought she was a gorgeous young lady and had more class than her husband and any of his family. William's Kate reminds me of Diana too. I really wish the papparazzi had learned from Diana's tragic death and would leave these two alone.

Yes, won't it be interesting(is that the right word) to see if Will will handle things any differently given his history.

I just wished the press wouldn't hound them so much. I understand people like seeing them but I think it worries the boys that what happened to their mother could happen to their families too. Kate is so cute and she has the look of the princess but I wonder if he is ready to put them through all that publicity.

Now Terri, you know that I just have to comment on this one, knowing how I dislike the whole bloody Saxe-Coberg-Gotha (a.k.a. Windsor) clan and all that they represent.

It's not so much that I dislike them all as individuals, in fact I wish Willy and Kate every happiness if they do marry. It's just that their pampered and privilaged 'royal' lifestyle has no place in today's world. Just how many palaces, butlers and footmen do you need ? and why should hard working British people have to contribute to the cost of those who have never done a day's real work in their lives ?

As a British 'republican' I object to being a 'subject' of the Queen. I would much prefer to be able to vote as a 'citizen' for a head of state, even though that could bring it's own problems.

Your people got it right in 1776 when they kicked out George III, and I tend to go along with Denis Diderot when he said ...

"Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest".

Come on, you know that you will record the wedding if it's on TV, and I do hope that you enjoy it, but don't look for me in the crowd. :-)

Well, I wouldn't be as bloodthirsty as John here, but it's true that I was never much interested in royalty. Not Diana either.
But that's all right, each of us is entitled to her little idiosyncrasies ;)

I will definitely watch if it happens, and I think it will eventually. Kate has been around a long time, so I can't see they breaking it off now, especially if she has the Queen's approval.

I followed Diana's romance also and then the failure of it. We watched the royal wedding in Sedona Arizona, had to get up unbelievably early to see it as we all laid in bed to watch the events unfold. Then the fairy tale life that didn't end up a fairy tale but a greek tragedy. I don't follow the young royals as closely but will hope that both young men find happiness in their marriages that Diana didn't get. Kate is a beautiful young woman, hopefully she is well grounded in who she is as that world is very crazy

I have to admit to feeling closest to the way John does. It all seems so inappropriate in today's world...with so much poverty everywhere you look. It goes back to my feeling of the "haves" vs. the "have-nots" and it makes me uncomfortable.

I recall the night Diana was killed. I was making scalloped potatoes and ham. As my husband and I watched the coverage, the song "Goodbye, Norma Jean" kept playing in my head. Then a few days later I heard Elton John was going to turn the melody into a song for Diana's funeral. Very weird.

To tell you the truth, I haven't paid much attention lately. Maybe I will now.

It is hard to believe that so much time has gone by that William could be getting married soon! Lord! It feels like the Paparazzi people are hounding this poor girl, too, as they did with Will's dear mother....I think it is just awful the way they don't allow people like this any privacy what-so-ever! Atrocious, really.
She sounds like a very smart and grounded young woman, if what one reads is true...Isn't that amazing that there are plates made up already?? As you said...commerce rears it's ugly head, once again....

Hi, ever since living in Belgium I have become sort of a royalist, but I don't relly follow the lives of the monarchies, recently we watched "The Queen" at the movies and we found it was great! as for the media, most newspepers in England seem to have said they engage themselves not to buy pictures of Kate from non official sources to avoid the problems there were with Diana.
