Lucy's Request

One of my faithful readers and favorite bloggers, Golden Lucy, has been requesting more photos of Duncan.  So this is for you, Lucy.  Duncan discovered the pleasure of a rubber ball in the yard yesterday afternoon.  He sure is a happy little puppy.....and his delightful antics really keep us laughing.  He has quite a growl and big boy demeanor for a 3 pound bundle of fur.....he playfully growls at the kittens, his ball, Holly's tail, etc.  He sure is an example of taking pleasure from the pure joy of life.

And he's so bright and such a good puppy, I keep forgetting he's only 7 weeks old!  Last evening Ray and I had to attend a meeting at the Lions Club, so I put Duncan into his crate while we were gone the hour and a half.....not a whimper out of him and when I crept back into the house, all was silent until he heard my voice.  He's now sleeping from 10 at night in his crate till 5:30-6:30 in the morning....I can't complain about that.  AND.....at only 7 weeks old, he's already a celebrity here on the island.  I got a phone call from the Editor of the Cedar Key News yesterday morning asking if Duncan would like to be Dog of the Week for next weeks edition.....Duncan didn't hesitate accepting.  Jim came over with camera and proceeded to snap a million pictures of Duncan, one of which will appear in the paper. But fame hasn't gone to Duncan's head yet.....he seems to be taking it in his stride.  If it appears in the online edition next Thursday, I'll put the link on here for you to see.  Holly had her 5 minutes of glory last year when we first moved here and she was Dog of the Week, so I have a feeling if Duncan had any delusions of grandeur, she set him straight.

Today Ray and I are attending a benefit luncheon at the Island Room. (my favorite restaurant on the island)  The benefit is for the Children's Summer Art Program and sponsored by the Cedar Key Arts Center.  When it comes to children (or the sick, elderly or animals) I feel very compelled to donate in any way I can.  It's a Three-Course Gourmet Lunch and I think it'll be nice.  Plus, it's always fun to see everyone and chat.....one of the perks I love about living in a small town.  No matter where we go, we bump into people we know.

With the new puppy here, I haven't had a moment to devote to completing Seeking Sydney....I did manage to work on a synopsis yesterday, as I'll begin sending out lots of query letters soon....and I've designated later this afternoon and all day tomorrow to continue working on my manuscript.  It shouldn't be too much longer until I have it finished and then begin the arduous editing process.

For those of you who follow me faithfully, you'll recall my anger a couple weeks ago concerning my drivers license and dealing with bureaucracy......well, the matter has finally been resolved.  Not to my liking, in the least......but lemme tell ya, that old saying is SO true......you can't fight City Hall.  I literally attempted to, got nowhere, realized I was truly at their mercy and tomorrow, as I'd promised, I will share the entire fiasco with you.  So come back for yet another example of how many times it doesn't matter how right you are......unfortunately, there is NOT always justice.  AND as Dana Reeves said, "Life isn't always fair."

So I'll see you tomorrow when I share my injustice with you...........

And one final photo for today.....Duncan's really getting to be a big boy....he's now able to navigate the 2 steps leading out here to my writer's studio.  And this is where he chooses to be.....with me.  SO I set up some towels for a bed area underneath my desk.....and as you can see, this is where he takes his nap when I'm in here on the computer.

Terri,
As promised, you delivered not only the Delicious Duncan update but your usual intimate and interesting update of island life. I wouldn't miss either for anything.

PS I am trying not to use exclaimation points so much. I just read a post suggesting it's unseemly for anyone over 40 to do that--And I do so want to be refined. I hope I get to keep using dots...and dashes---
love,
lucyd

PS2 That last picture of Duncan is too precious.
