Yeah, it's tough for a 7 week old pup to distinguish between that angel voice and that devil calling......But I have to say Duncan's doing pretty well with his potty training, with only a few minor piddling accidents. Besides, as everyone says.....he's SO darn cute, it's tough to be very angry. And the dog books says (like babies) it takes awhile for his bladder to have enough tone to control. So for those of you who follow the stocks....here's a tip.....go for Lysol Spray. I'm using a fair amount of it right now and boosting that stock, I'm sure.
Duncan had his first vet visit yesterday with Miss Holly coming along. Duncan was great. Greeted all the other people in the waiting room, kissed the staff and totally wrapped everyone around his tiny paw. There were lots of "ooooo's" and "ahhhhs" and Holly also got her fair share of attention. How could she not? Looking so spiffy wearing her butterfly scarf.
For those of you who attempted a guess at Duncan's weight.....he's 3 pounds, 3 ounces. No bigger than a minute really, but like the Scottish Terrier book says, "they pack a lot of dog in a small package." That pup sure does have attitude. You should hear him growl playfully at Holly and the cats....he won't back down if he wants a toy Holly's teasing him with, that's for sure. He got his shots, another deworming, got his first Heartworm pill, had his little nails trimmed, got his first doggie treat (which he devoured) and he was very pleased to hear the vet tell me I can increase his 3 times a day feeding to 1/4 of a cup, rather than just the 1/8 of a cup. He has a healthy appetite, and like the vet said, he's doing a lot of growing right now. He also did super on the 50 minute drive to and back home from the vet and he goes back again in 3 weeks for his final shots.
Here he is yesterday afternoon when we got home playing with Foster on the lanai.

As for the surrogate mom, Holly......she sure has been doing her motherly chores.....she lost 3 pounds in less than 2 weeks since we got Duncan! She had her annual check up a week and a half ago and was 73 pounds, today she weighed 70. Taking care of a pup is a lot of work, as Holly is finding out. She's incredibly good with him. I always knew she was an intelligent dog, but she still continues to amaze me. Not only does she allow the kittens to squeeze in when she's eating her supper so they can grab a bite, when I give her a dog biscuit, she bites it in half and drops the other half for Duncan to have......now that's a caring mom. I've often said that animals take better care of their young than some humans do and Holly is proof of this. Also.....because she's so much bigger, when they're playing Holly lays down and lets Duncan come to her and she's on the same level with him. Another lesson many humans could learn.....Standing above somebody always gives off the indication that you're better/smarter/higher than they are. I remember in nurses training one the first things I was taught was to pull a chair up to the patients bedside, so I'd be on the same level as them when I was doing a verbal assessment. And my Holly....she already understands this technique. She's one in a million, for sure....and here she is taking a well-deserved rest yesterday afternoon.

Well, folks, that's it for today with my doggie updates. Enjoy your Tuesday and I'll see you tomorrow.......

Goofy....he might be small in stature, but wow, he's got a lot of "attitude"....lol
Joyce...I've changed from Lysol to some liquid soap and vinegar, mixed in a bottle with water. Read that in the doggie book, so I'm trying it. But he's doing pretty good getting outside....WHEN I take him.....lol
Don't know how I missed this post.. It's great and I love the little anecdotes about Holly, What a wonderful dog!
That baby makes me even more determined to get my Westie. I know it won't be long.
