Thursday Thirteen ~ #3

MY 13 BAH HUMBUGS for 2006

1.  Why did they have to start the Christmas commercials on TV a week BEFORE Thanksgiving?  I'm tired of them already!

2.  It really annoys me that most commercials for children's toys happen to be so expensive the poor parents will have to sell their first-born child in order to afford it.

3.  Why can't the kindness and generosity shown during this season linger all year?

4.  When shoppers are driving themselves nuts trying to search for that gift for that person who has everything.....why don't they just make a nice donation to a worthy charity in the recipients name?

5.  Why do we still live in a country of the "have's" and the "have-nots"

6.  Just for once, has the news media ever thought of deleting all bad news for their broadcast on Christmas day and maybe covering only all the good things that's happened in the world.

7.  In the same vein as #1.....why do the radio stations start playing the holiday music SO early?

8.  By the week before Christmas, how come shoppers have already forgotten that holiday spirit by pushing, shoving and being just downright rude?

9.  Why is it that very often we only hear from friends we really like at this time of year?

10.  When did greed start incidiously creeping into the most holy of holidays?

11.  And when did most of us begin to lose that child-like wonder that Christmas is supposed to be?

12.  Why do people adopt/purchase dogs/cats at this time of year because they think they'll look cute under the tree?

13.  And why oh why.....can't the world live as one....giving humanity lasting peace.

Now that I've vented for this year.....I intend to begin enjoying the holiday season.  Hope you'll do the same.  See you tomorrow.......

I don't participate normally in the "Thursday 13" but in the case of yours today....

"Ditto, Ditto, Ditto, Ditto, Ditto, Ditto, Ditto, Ditto, Ditto, Ditto, Ditto, Ditto, Ditto!

Alright....my first Thursday Thirteen!

Love this post. And double that on #3, 6, 11, and 13. I am, however, one of those people who love the season enough to not mind christmas music, deco, or other things popping into my existence even before Thanksgiving. :)

Oh, yeah, my monsters sit watching cartoons, shouting "I want that! And that! And that!" I hate it. I'm tempted to take them shopping, get one toy apiece, and then drag them to Toys for Tots and donate them.

Sometimes I think we're spiraling out of control and will go the way of Rome! Every year it gets worse. But we have to create our own haven of Christmas spirit and maybe that means to STOP doing some of it. Keep it simple is my motto!

I linked to you today on my 13 all in RED.

Hahah, your list is great. I wish people would be nicer all year round!!

Well, we just adopted a kitten, but not because we think he'll look cute under the tree. We've actually been waiting for him to be old enough to leave his mom and his siblings, and it just happens to be now.

I agree with the items on your list though. Christmas has become so commercialized.

Have a good day. :)

I work in retail and I"ve noticed that people are ALREADY crabby, short fused and VERY DEMANDING. Did I mention rude too?

Oiye. It's going to be a long season.

My 13 are up.

Could I get a number 8 louder! Oh I so dislike rude shoppers. I am trying to do little bits at a time so I don't lose my Christmas Childlike wonder! Well Martin says I live in child like wonder.....so lose the Christmas spirit anyway! I tried to ignore all the hoopla this year so they couldn't make my Christmas come too early or be all about retail!

Excellent list.,. I am very much in agreement with the commercials and the music, but I also blieve that the shoppers are rude from the start.

I agree with your list! I like Christmas, but when I was young, we always waited until Christmas Eve to get our tree! A tradition that I keep now even though sometimes it is difficult to find a tree that late, then we just decorate a tree outside, which is nice. I don't put lights or breakable items on our tree inside, because I allow my kitties to have fun also, and normally there is one that trys to climb it!

Terri: the strangest thing happened when I brought your blog up. The audio portion of the Danish video played the whole time that I was reading your 13 humbugs...this was especially strange since I couldn't get the sound to come up on Tues! Hmmmm.
I'm like Alan...I don't do the 13 thing but would definitely say "Ditto".

All good questions Terri...And you are so right about all of this. Pretty soon all the Christmas music will start right after Labor Day and waaaaay beforc Halloween...!
One of the advantages of not being able to go out anywhere---I don't have to deal with the rudeness that does seem to creep in the closer we get to the actual Holiday itself. And all the "good feeling" just goes right out the window.

Today I saw a dress for $76,000. Thought I'd wait til it went on sale--maybe 1/2 price.

Great list; good thinking--and writing.

My TT is up.
