Island Pumpkin Patch

The pumpkins have come to Cedar Key....A giant truck load of them were delivered last Saturday and are now ready for sale as you can see here.....

The United Methodist Church on the island are selling these, along with gourds, as a fundraiser.  So I hopped on down there the other day and got my share.  Nothing like these orange orbs to make you feel autumn is really in the air. (Even if the temp says it's in the 80's)  And this what I did with them.......

So now my front walkway is all decorated for the autumn season.....bring on the cooler days.

This weekend is the annual Seafood Festival on the island.  Locals and tourists alike will flock the downtown area in search of farm grown Cedar Key clams, mullet, grouper, and shrimp, in addition to land-lubbers food.  2nd Street will be blocked off from traffic with the vendors lining the street displaying all kinds of art work and crafts.  But they'll be something a bit different going on this year.....Some of us will be approaching the festival goers asking them to sign a petition.  And yes, two of those someone's will be Ray and me.  It all has to do with the outrageous taxes that we pay to live on this island.  Ray and I will be circulating between 12 and 2:00 today to get as many signatures as we can.

And I'll be back tomorrow to explain what this is all about......See you then.

Pumpkins always make great subjects for photos. I guess it must be the color and size. I am not familiar with the term "land-lubber" but have a sneaky suspicion that I am one of them there things. I like the Pelican on your front porch.

Good luck on the petition!

I too love photographing pumpkins! Especially when they come in large quantities like in the States. Here at the market, there's will be one, sitting there that they'll cut into portions.
Good luck for your petition

Alan....if you prefer burgers to seafood....you're a bonafide land-lubber. I lean more toward a seafood kind of person.

We'll be circulating those petitions today....and I'll have an explanatory entry for tomorrow about the reasons for the petition.

Terri, I am back home now and enjoying reading all that I missed while I was away. I loved hearing all about Floyd and your trip there, and I wish I could have been there too.

These photos make me feel all warm and fuzzy. I can just imagine the atmosphere surrounding their arrival, choice, and homecoming. I often look for the tone between words, and strive for that in my own writing. This entry has a lovely tone, and makes me want to experience the scene first-hand. Cedar Key looks and sounds like a wonderful place.
