D-Day....61 Years Later

Since my dad was part of the Normandy Invasion, I felt it only right to acknowledge that today is the 61st anniversary of that invasion.  I, like many others, wasn't even born then but even all these years later I understand the significance of it.  Movies like Saving Private Ryan help to keep the memory alive.  I grew up hearing about this time in our history and have made sure that my children and grandchildren have a knowledge of it.  When our flag draped my dad's casket two years ago, I was mighty proud to be his daughter.  So I say a silent thank-you to all who served during that time and has allowed me the freedoms that I enjoy today.

The murder mystery at the Island Hotel Saturday evening appeared to be a huge success.  I really enjoyed covering the event and when the article appears in the Cedar Key News, I'll have a link on here for you to read it.  In the meantime, I've set up a Photo Gallery and put in a couple of the pictures I took.

Construction workers are back on the job this morning and working their magic to move the project along.  I'm not sure the birds are real happy with the fact they've been evicted from their normal feeding spots.  But I've hung all the feeders in the chinaberry tree and since they were empty this morning, I guess they're adjusting.

Ray and I are heading to Chiefland today to get our boat registered and then on to Crystal River to the boat shop to purchase all the required gear that will make us sea-worthy.  Depending on tides and weather, we're hoping to get out on that pontoon later this week.  After much deliberation, we've come up with a name for the boat........Madame Colette.  We chose that for a couple of reasons.....Ray and I are confirmed Francophiles.  Colette was a famous French author and I enjoyed many of her books.  I also visited her grave in Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris.......she enjoyed life, was an independent thinker, lived and let live and I think her carefree, avant-garde attitude toward life depicts the personality of our boat.

That's it for island news today.  Time to move on outta here and I'll see you tomorrow..........
