Historical Society Xmas Party
Meet Mrs. David Levy Yulee....she was the speaker at our Christmas party last evening for the Historical Society. Toni Collins is a Historian and dresses the part with a period costume. She's a presenter of living history from lives of pioneer women in Levy County. She portrayed Mrs. David Levy Yulee, known as the "father of Florida's railroads." Levy was instrumental in the 1860's for setting up the railroad that went from Fernandina Beach (Amelia Island) out here to Cedar Key.
It was a very enjoyable evening and the food was delicious.....catered by our Frog's Restaurant. The event had a great turn-out, with close to 100 people attending. It was fun to see and chat with everyone. For me, it's one of the major benefits of living in a small town......feeling welcome and accepted and knowing so many people well enough to have conversation when you see them. So a great time was had by all and that was just the first of 4 Christmas parties on the island that I'll be going to.
On Tuesday I have 2 parties to attend.....the Women's Club is having their party at noon. We're doing a gift exchange and will have a luncheon, which should be fun. Then that evening, Ray and I will be going to the Lion's Club Christmas party......another gift exchange and the meal is being catered by my very favorite Island Room. Next Friday we'll be attending the Eagles Christmas party, and by then I'll probably be partied out.
Tomorrow afternoon we're attending "Greetings From the Porch." It's being held out at the State Museum on the island and I'm not quite sure what it involves....the notice said "bring a lawn chair." So I'll blog on that Sunday.
Well, today's my day to decorate the house and get the tree up. Christmas cards are almost finished and lots of gifts are wrapped, so I'm making progress.
Wishing you a happy holiday season and I'll see you tomorrow.......
