Book Signings, etc.
I was in the Jacksonville/Amelia Island area last week doing book signings. They were very successful and I want to thank all of you that stopped by to chat and purchase a book. I always enjoy meeting new readers and hope you'll continue to follow my writing.
The photo here was taken on Amelia Island and yes, it was chilly up there! As you can see, there's always some die-hard fishing people around, despite the cold. Having grown up on the Atlantic, I always marvel at the difference with the Gulf. Even on a warm day in summer, I recall the Atlantic being frigid. The Gulf is more tranquil, not to mention degrees warmer. We don't have these strong, powerful, waves coming onto our beaches here on the island.
I love the Historic/downtown district of Amelia Island. They've done a lovely job of restoring the store fronts without losing the quaintness of the Victorian beauty. They have a great Seattle coffee shop there and a shoe store I really DO need to stay away from......I visited it last year and came home with 2 great pairs of shoes and I'm afraid I did the same thing last week. Was also able to squeeze in some Christmas shopping between book signings, which was great.
I must admit though, that being on Amelia Island I never have the "feeling" of being ON an island like here in Cedar Key. Of course it's much larger, but one can wander street after street and not actually see any water. Not so here.....no matter where I go, I see the Gulf and I love that feeling. From the first time I ever visited here, I knew I was in my element. So it's great to be back home.
We have lots of holiday events coming up on Cedar Key over the next few weeks.....Tonight Ray and I are attending the Historical Society Christmas Party. I'm a docent at the Museum and the dinner and party is a thank-you to those of us that volunteer our time. I'll be blogging on this and some of the other events leading up to Christmas.
Make it a good Thursday and since there's only 17 more days till Christmas, get out there and finish up your shopping. See you tomorrow........
