Enough's Enough
For those of you that don't have small children or granddaughters, this is an American Girl doll. One of many that the company carries. I happen to think it's a great company, a great product for girls and a worthwhile purchase. So much so, that over the years I've purchased 4 of these dolls for my 11 year old granddaughter, plus various accessories to go with the dolls.
I've endured these past years with a buffoon in the White House, invasion of our privacy (With a so-called Patriot Act) humiliation at airport check-ins, the attempt of more and more of my freedoms and rights being taken away from me, a bunch of crap in relation to evolution, religion being crammed down my throat........but I will NOT stand by and let religious fanatics threaten to boycott a DOLL! A DOLL for God's sake! Enough's enough! And yes, I'm pretty ticked off!
On September 19 American Doll partnered with Girls Inc. to launch it's "I CAN" band to encourage girls to be all that they can be. The promise the girls sign when they receive this band is:
I can be myself, follow my dreams and always do my best. I can reach for the stars, lend a hand to others and be a good friend. I can make a difference! I promise to try!
Okay, I don't know about you.....but these words are what I'd like to hope every young girl in this country would be willing to promise. Even at a young age, I encourage my granddaughter to reach for those stars, because the sky's the limit. Being a female in this day and age, in this country, should not limit us in the least!
The mission of Girls Inc. is to "inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold." Damn right they should be! It's THEIR right to be so. However, two groups, the Pro-Life Action League and the American Family Association, are up in arms about the American Girl-Girls Inc. partnership. Their main issue is that "Girls Inc. supports a woman's right to choose." Ah yoo hoo.....I don't care if you condone abortion or you don't.....it's the LAW to have that right to choose! They have gone as far as to propose that families boycott American Girl products this Christmas season. Another example of conservatives overreacting.
As US Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill) said, "It's just silly and a lack of proportion." Speaking about Girls Inc, he said, "An organization like this plays a vital part in making certain we are opening up our windows and letting our girls look upon the horizon and see which path they want to follow."
Oh, and by the way, the AFA called the campaign for the wrist bands, "a pro-abortion, pro-lesbian advocacy group."
This is what our country has come to.....banning dolls for little girls, because "they" don't agree with free choice for women. What's next.....history repeating itself with books, movies, etc.
Yes, I'm mighty ticked off.....and you'll excuse me while I go visit the American Girl website to order lots of clothes and accessories for my granddaughter for Christmas.
Just my opinion......See you tomorrow..........
